Lumbago
Lumbago is not a Medical Diagnosis

Help for lumbago - treatment and therapy
Simple, comfortable and clean – ideal for use at home

Lumbago is a blanket term for low back pain and not a genuine medical diagnosis. This type of back pain often appears suddenly and is usually described as a stabbing pain in the lumbar (low back) region. Such severe back pain can lead to movement adaptations, poor posture and possibly even paralysis.

This type of stabbing back pain can also occur in the neck; i.e. the cervical spine. This is then simply referred to as stabbing neck pain, or torticolis/wry neck if the head becomes locked in position. Lumbago normally involves only the spinal nerve itself, and the the condition usually improves on its own after a few days. Men more commonly suffer from this type of back pain, and the condition most commonly affects those between 30 and 45 years of age.

What can I do to quickly and dependable eliminate or reduce stabbing back pain (lumbago)?

Our fango healing clay sheets offer the perfect solution for stabbing back pain. They're easy to use and clean to apply – the ideal home remedy.

You'll also benefit from the well-known healing power of our healing clay.

fangocur is helpful in so many ways:

As the Fango Sheet is such an excellent heat conductor (due to the patented method for forming the sheets), it penetrates deeply to warm the tissue in the painful area.

The clay pack is more than just a heat therapy. The unique ingredients such as sulphur, electrolytes, minerals and trace elements are also very beneficial. This special volcanic healing clay is also an important part of the treatment.

The mouldable Fango Sheets can be formed to the area being treated. This patented method for applying healing clay puts the clay pack in direct contact with the skin.

As it's a 100% natural product, there are no side effects. This is a recognised remedy used in hospitals and rehabilitation centres by physicians and physiotherapists.

How does the Fango Sheet (i.e. fangocur healing clay pack) fight lumbago?

Whether applied warm or cool to the area where you're feeling the pain, you'll notice the healthful benefits after the very first use. It's the special nature of our clay pack to hold their temperature well (cold or hot) and also to soothingly transfer the heat or cold to the area needing attention. This means that the therapy can be of longer duration, and that the treatment penetrates deeply and evenly into the tissue.

The healing clay acts to increase circulation and relax the muscle tissue. The metabolism of the tissue overall is also improved, reducing or eliminating as well as preventing inflammation. Our healing clay is from a volcanic region of Austria and is naturally high in sulphur – it soothes, relaxes, reduces inflammation and improves the metabolism. This allows stabbing back pain to fade away after only a few treatments. Regular preventative therapy with the Fango Sheets help the body to continue functioning well...and pain free.

Is there anything special to keep in mind when using the Fango Sheets?

It's important to take care to apply the Fango Sheet directly to the skin. That's something unique about our healing clay pack – shaping them is easy due to the patented formable nature of our Fango Sheets. The result: healing via the warm and soothing effects of the Fango Sheets along with all the benefits of fangocur all-natural volcanic clay. When applying a Fango Sheet to the back, it's best to lay on the healing clay pack. Place some kind of pad under your back and make sure that you're in a comfortable position. Enjoy!

Causes for the Stabbing Back Pain of Lumbago

The most common cause of this type of back pain is subluxation (i.e. a small dislocation) caused by a turning movement of the spine. In addition a fall or bending then standing up too quickly can result in the back condition. Sustained exposure to cold, particularly to the low back, as well as the lifting of a heavy object can also cause problems for the back. A more broad cause is that the muscles which are meant to support the back are too weak. Of course being overweight and bad posture also strain the spine and can lead to stabbing back pain. Another possible cause is unequal leg length which can strain the support system and cause an adaptive and sometimes painful posture. It's important to also keep in mind that psychological stress can lead to back pain: the feeling of being cramped or boxed in, always feeling burdened. The cause of this type of back pain can also be rather serious, for example prolapsed inter-vertebral disc or the presence of a tumour (not only in the spine – also in the abdominal space or pelvis. For this reason, it's essential to consult a physician if you have lumbago or stabbing back pain that lasts more than a few days.

Can lumbago pain be prevented?

The best way to avoid lumbago overall is to treat your back well – keep the abdominal muscles, back muscles and gluteals (the muscles in your derrière) strong in order to support the spine and keep it healthy. Take the time to care for and protect your spine through exercise and proper lifting (bend your knees and use your legs, not your back). Try to avoid repetitive one-sided activities, use a proper chair at work and invest in a quality mattress and supportive pillow. The optimal sports to keep the back healthy are swimming, bicycling (with a high comfortable position). If you find that you constantly suffer with stress, ask for help. A massage from time to time can also be beneficial.

What can one do to treat lumbago?

  1. First, warm a fangocur Fango Sheet and apply it to the area (or lay on the sheet – see the enclosed instructions) and do your best to ensure good skin contact. For the treatment, it's a good idea to lay down with the feel flat on the floor and the knees up.
  2. Take care that the area affected is kept warm on relatively immobile. If this is done, the lumbago should resolve itself within a few days.
  3. If the condition does not significantly improve within 3-4 days, consult a physician.
  4. You can use pain relievers such as aspirin to treat the pain or other analgesics (non-steroidal) if you're sensitive to aspirin. There are also injections which reduce the pain, and muscle relaxants can also be helpful.
  5. Regularly use the Fango Sheets as a preventative measure. They're an effective method to reduce and prevent lumbago pain.

The healing effectiveness of fangocur healing clay has been confirmed by medical/balneological research conducted by the Department of Pharmacodynamics and Toxicology at the University of Graz, 1978.
